Very Inconsiderate...

While riding along the New Punggol Park Connector from Punggol East (near Lorong Halus) toward the Punggol Marina, I came across this damaged shelter. The person who damaged this shelter is totally inconsiderate. This is damaging of public property and I hope the person be caught and given a few strokes.

Tampines Mountain Bike Park may not be long!!!

Tampines mountain bike park is a very popular park for lot of mountain bike riders particularly those staying in the east of Singapore.  Every weekend, there are easily 50 riders in the park riding.  It has a BMX racing track that meet the world standard.  This park was proffessionally renovated in 2010 for the 1st Youth Olympic that took place in Singapore.

Today, I received a map of the Pasir Ris - Punggol GRC and while looking through the map, I noticed something that was a little shocking to me.

In the map, there is Tampines Ave 11 and Tampine Street 52 planned in the mountain bike park.  This really caught me by surprise.  Is government planning to get rid of this park?  I understand that land in Tampines has good value particularly those near MRT.  This mountain bike park is about 15mins walking distance to the Tampines MRT on the east-west line.  It will be about 10mins or lesser to the future Tampines central station on the Down Town Line 3 (DTL3) but to demolish a world standard mountain bike is really a waste.

If this park is gone, where else can the eastern mountain bike riders go to?  I rode a few times before the renovation and after the renovation.  I would really miss it if this is gone.

I really hope this is not a case but a printing error of the map.

Finally Hawker gets her rightful share

Regarding about the case where a hawker striked more than $400k at MBS but was told that she could only get about $300k.  After more than 2 weeks, MBS finally agrees to pay her the full amount she won from the jackpot machine.  This is really a bad publicity for MBS, MBS could have pay her the amount she won from the jackpot machine.

What are your comments on this?

Food, Credit Cards and Singapore

Do you know the linkage between food, credit cards and Singapore?  I bet you probably won't know if you are not a Singaporean.  Singaporean loves to eat.  Eating out is so common and Singaporean will look for good food with great bargain.  Thus, the credit card companies or the banks will try to promote their credit cards linkage to food.

Just look at these 3 advertisement from this week newspaper, you will know what I mean.

Is a matter of presentation

This is the electric tariff for Singapore over the past years from 2006Q4 to 2011Q3.  On the primary Y-axis is the per barrel Fuel Oil Price (FOP) in Singapore $ and on the secondary Y-axis is the Low Tension Tariff (LTT - residence house hold) rate (cent/kwh).  The pink color line is the FOP while the blue line is the LTT.

What can you tell from the chart?
  1. The variation in the FOP is huge
  2. The variation in the LTT is small
  3. The variation in the LTT vs the FOP is small or insignificant.
Now, if the secondary Y-axis has it max value change from 120 to 35.  Let see the effect of it.

The obervations.
  1. Both FOP and LTT has huge variations
  2. LTT variation become significant comparing to FOP variation.
Conclusion:
The way presentation material is done, it matter how the perception can be.  The FACT stays.
